Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia recently honored bank for driving social impact within its business and across the region
PHILADELPHIA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, announced that it has been named a 2024 honoree of the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia. The Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia ranks employers across the region by the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, in partnership with globally recognized nonprofit Points of Light and the Philadelphia Foundation.
“TD Bank is a proud, longstanding member of the greater Philadelphia community, and this incredible recognition is further proof of our deep commitment to supporting local programs and initiatives that align with our core purpose to enrich the lives of our customers, colleagues and communities,” said Rob Curley, Regional President of Metro PA/NJ for TD Bank. “I am proud of everything our colleagues continue to do together to ensure Philadelphia is a great place to live and work for all.”
The Civic 50 evaluates private and public companies, nonprofits, agencies and institutions across the greater Philadelphia region based on their engagement and investment within the community. TD Bank scored high in key areas, including average grant size, grants that generate social value, average external volunteer hours per volunteer and racial equity. TD also performed well regarding its integration of community engagement programs that support business interests as well as its support of community-focused institutional policies, systems and incentives.
“The Chamber is proud to recognize TD Bank as a 2024 honoree of the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia,” said Chellie Cameron, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber. “Each of this year’s honorees are valued members of Greater Philadelphia’s business community, exemplifying what it means to be a positive corporate citizen and demonstrating the power of service. We thank TD Bank for their efforts to drive impact and congratulate them on this tremendous achievement.”
Specifically, the bank works closely with key organizations and community and elected leaders to learn about pressing challenges across the communities it serves and beyond, guided by the TD Ready Commitment, a global initiative whereby the Bank will dedicate approximately $750 million by 2030, to 4 key areas that can help drive positive change, nurture progress and help make communities stronger and more inclusive. These drivers of change help build financial confidence through Financial Security, help to protect and restore the environment so people and economies can thrive in a Vibrant Planet, help to create a sense of belonging and inclusion through Connected Communities, and help to support innovative solutions for equitable care through Better Health. Each year, TD launches its signature campaign, the TD Ready Challenge, offering grants to organizations developing innovative solutions that are anchored in these drivers.
Over the past year, TD has dedicated funding to several initiatives across the Greater Philadelphia region.
In March, TD awarded a $1 million TD Ready Challenge grant to Clarifi, a local nonprofit addressing barriers to affordable housing for low-to-moderate income people in the Greater Philadelphia area through housing counseling, financial education, home repair, and financial resilience grants.
In January, TD announced a three-year Community Impact Plan that will provide an estimated $20 billion supporting lending, philanthropy, banking access and other activities for the benefit of diverse and underserved communities. This strategy, developed with insight from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC), will target communities across TD Bank’s U.S. presence in 15 states and Washington, D.C., and is comprised of mortgage lending and consumer products, small business support, community development loans and investment, CRA-related philanthropy and sponsorships, increased banking access and the establishment of a Community Advisory Board, among other initiatives.
In 2023, the TD Charitable Foundation, the giving arm of the Bank, made its first mission-related investment, committing $5 million to the Innovate Capital Growth Fund (ICGF), a small business investment company sponsored by The Enterprise Center. This fund provides growth equity to minority- and women-owned business in Philadelphia. Last year, TD also gave $2.5 million to Local Initiatives Support Corporation’s (LISC) housing program that aims to maintain neighborhood assets and promote growth while protecting long-term residents and community needs for affordable and equitable housing options. TD’s contribution of $2.5 million over two years to the Non-Profit Preservation Initiative will assist LISC’s work with non-profit building owners to preserve and protect 650 publicly assisted affordable rental housing units in neighborhoods across the city, with a priority focus in West Philadelphia and Eastern North Philadelphia.
“TD has been dedicated to building and strengthening relationships within our community for decades and to have Civic 50 recognize TD’s efforts for another year is truly an honor,” said Paige Carlson-Heim, Head of Social Impact for TD Bank. “The TD Ready Challenge, currently underway, is just one of the ways in which TD continues to lead the way in helping to support and foster an inclusive community for all in the Philadelphia area, and we are committed to continue this great work alongside our grant recipients and community organizations for years to come.”
