Clay Gaspar was elected President and Chief Executive Officer of Devon Energy and appointed to the company’s Board of Directors in March 2025. Prior to becoming CEO, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer following Devon Energy’s merger with WPX Energy in 2021.

Before joining Devon, Clay served as President and Chief Operating Officer of WPX Energy and was a member of its Board of Directors. His career also includes engineering and leadership roles with Newfield Exploration, Anadarko Petroleum, and Mewbourne Oil Company.

In addition to his executive leadership, Clay serves on the boards of the Permian Strategic Partnership and the American Heart Association Southwest Region. He also chairs the Upstream Committee of the American Petroleum Institute and is a member of the Texas A&M Engineering Advisory Council.

Clay holds a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in Petroleum and Geosciences Engineering from The University of Texas. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
