Fourth Annual CoreGiving Day to Unite More Than 2,500 Volunteers in Cities Across the United States

September 10, 2024

Blackstone and 16 portfolio companies to join food banks in providing meals to those in need

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–CoreGiving, a nonprofit organization founded to fight childhood hunger across the U.S., will hold its fourth annual CoreGiving Day on Thursday, October 10, 2024. This event is expected to bring together more than 2,500 volunteers to support hunger-relief organizations in over 70 cities. Employees from Blackstone and 16 of its portfolio companies will participate.

This year, the Blackstone Charitable Foundation is strengthening its partnership with CoreGiving by expanding its Global Fight Hunger campaign, which will launch on CoreGiving Day. As part of this expansion, Blackstone employees in more cities will join colleagues from portfolio companies to combat hunger in their local communities. The Foundation will also grant $250,000 to CoreGiving, further supporting efforts to feed children and families in need.

“Hunger impacts every community in the U.S., with over 44 million people, including 13 million children, struggling with food insecurity,” said Luke J. Petherbridge, chairman and co-founder of CoreGiving and CEO of Link Logistics. “CoreGiving plays an essential role in the fight to end child hunger, and CoreGiving Day is just one way we support our communities and neighbors in need. I’m truly thankful to see so many people come together for this meaningful cause, helping children grow and thrive.”

Since its inception, CoreGiving has provided nearly 54 million meals to children and families facing hunger. In 2023 alone, it granted more than $4 million to 76 charity partners across 25 states. On last year’s CoreGiving Day, over 2,400 volunteers supported local food banks in more than 60 cities, providing over 800,000 meals to neighbors in need.

“September is Hunger Action Month, a critical time to raise awareness and rally our national network of volunteers,” said Bridget O’Connell, executive director of CoreGiving. “With millions of families still grappling with high food prices, our volunteers are stepping up to make a tangible difference. On CoreGiving Day, they will be on the ground, providing warm meals, packing emergency food boxes, harvesting fresh produce from community gardens and much more. Their dedication not only delivers essential food, but also brings hope to children and families facing food insecurity.”
