Today’s world is constantly changing. So are we.
Known as the trusted source of safety knowledge, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has been helping to solve some of the planet’s toughest safety problems for 130 years. To remain relevant for over a century as a knowledge and information organization, we’ve continually evolved our scope of expertise—from fire prevention, wildfire preparedness, and electrical safety to hazardous materials, community risk reduction, and public safety.

And to meet today’s technology standards, we created NFPA LiNK®, which transforms 1,500+ codes and standards into a digital platform for improved access to knowledge and information.

People over profit. Building a better world through shared knowledge.
NFPA was founded as—and still is—a self-funded nonprofit. Our mission is to help save lives and reduce loss with information, knowledge, and passion. What started as a Boston-based organization for fire sprinkler codes has grown to become the leading global advocate for the elimination of death, injury, property, and economic loss due to fire, electrical, and related hazards.

We’re combating safety myths and misinformation by delivering expert knowledge through more than 300 codes and standards, innovative research, professional training, public education, and outreach and advocacy.

Helping real heroes since 1896.
Our passion for our mission is fueled by knowing that our work helps make lives better, workdays easier, and people safer. Whether it’s an engineer designing a health clinic, an electrician ensuring safety in the workplace, or a new homeowner installing fire alarms, NFPA is committed to providing people with the products, services, and other information they need to be safe at work and at home.

From our Fire & Life Safety Ecosystem™—which helps communities, companies, and governments come together to prevent tragedy—to our CRAIG 1300™ Community Risk Assessment dashboards—which help fire departments mitigate risks—we have the tools, technology, and experience to effectively deliver knowledge to the men and women who help keep us safe.

We believe people need to work together to transform the world.
Over 250 technical committees play a crucial role in our standards development process accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) by reviewing amendments and voting on revisions.

The more than 10,000 global volunteers who make up these committees—architects, analysts, engineers, government officials, manufacturers, first responders, and others—join us for a single, meaningful purpose: to help save lives. With international offices in Latin America and the Middle East and North Africa, we’re expanding the use of codes and standards to advance knowledge, information, and safety around the globe. It’s a big world. Let’s protect it together.®

NFPA Global Solutions
In March 2024, NFPA announced the creation of NFPA Global Solutions™, an entirely separate, fully owned NFPA corporation that offers compliance solutions, digital products, and advisory services that extend beyond the traditional products and services offered by NFPA. Although NFPA Global Solutions is part of the larger NFPA family, it has a separate staff and board of directors. Additionally, NFPA standards development remains under the non-profit 501(c)(3) operation of NFPA, and neither NFPA nor NFPA Global Solutions staff can be participants in the NFPA standards process.
